Becoming a Turkish Citizen Through Marriage

Becoming a Turkish Citizen Through Marriage

First of all, marriage with a Turkish citizen does not automatically give foreigners the right to become Turkish citizens. The conditions of being a Turkish citizen by marriage are regulated in the 16th article of the Citizenship Law No. 5901. Pursuant to the relevant text of the law, in order for a foreign national to become a citizen through a spouse, the following conditions must be met:

Turkey Residence Permit Application Required Documents

? The foreigner who will apply for citizenship has been married to a Turkish citizen for at least 3 years and the marriage continues;

? Participation of spouses in family unity;

? The foreigner does not act against the marriage union;

? The foreigner does not have a situation that will threaten public security.

Foreigners can apply for citizenship to the governorships where they are located, if they meet the above conditions. However, in the event that the Turkish citizen spouse dies after the application date, the spouse is not required to live in a family union.

The last paragraph of the text of the law is related to the situation of the foreigner who gains Turkish citizenship as a result of the marriage ending with the death. If the foreigner has good intentions in marriage, his citizenship will not be revoked.
